About

Welcome to Good Shepherd Baptist Church

Iglesia Bautista El Buen Pastor – Lansing, Michigan

Founded in 1968, Good Shepherd Baptist Church has served as a spiritual home for individuals and families seeking to grow in faith and live out the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our roots are in the Spanish-speaking community, and today, we continue our mission to unite English and Spanish speakers under one roof, worshipping God with one voice and one heart.

Originally located on Illinois Street, we became officially constituted in 1969. By God’s provision, we moved to our current location on Lansing’s south side in 1993, where we continue to thrive and serve.

Our Pastoral History

Our founding pastor, Rev. Reta, led services entirely in Spanish. Since then, many faithful leaders have shepherded our congregation, including Rev. Juan Macías (1970–1979), Rev. Reinaldo Powell, Darryl Hodge (interim), John Torres, Juan Holguin, and Rev. Carlos Liese. Today, we are blessed to be led by our interim pastors, Samuel Lagunas and Joshua Diaz.

Our Mission

“Love others as Christ has loved us.”
John 15:12 (NIV)

We exist to bring people into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ and into fellowship with His church, helping each person grow spiritually and serve faithfully.

Our Vision

To build a unified community where Spanish and English-speaking individuals grow together in faith, live according to God’s Word, and support one another in love.

What We Believe

  • We believe in one true God revealed in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, fully divine, who came to redeem us through His sacrifice.
  • We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within believers, teaching, guiding, and convicting us in righteousness.
  • We believe the Bible is the inspired and holy Word of God, our ultimate authority in life and doctrine.
  • We believe all people are created in God’s image and deeply loved by Him.
  • We believe salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the power and necessity of the church—a community of believers gathering to worship, grow, and support one another.

Our Church Covenant

As followers of Christ, we make a solemn covenant to live in love, support one another, maintain devotion in our homes, share the gospel, and promote the health of this church through prayer, service, and generosity. We strive to be examples of Christ in our communities and commit to reconciling with one another quickly, praying for each other, and offering grace in both joy and hardship.
